Core Aeration - Breathe new life into your lawn’s roots!
What is Core Aeration?
Core aeration is a common practice completed by owners of the healthiest lawns! It is the removal of small soil plugs, or cores, from the lawn. Core aeration holes are 1/2 inch wide, 2-3 inches deep, and 2-6 inches apart.

Why does my lawn need core aeration?
Maple Grove, Plymouth, Corcoran, Medina and Hamel all have compacted clay soils that impede the movement of air, water and nutrients to the grass roots. Roots require oxygen to absorb water, nutrients and to grow. When compacted, soil contributes to the accumulation of thatch because restricted oxygen levels impair the activity of earthworms and other thatch-decomposing organisms. Thatch accumulates faster on compacted soils and heavy clay soils than on well aerified soils. When thatch depth exceeds 1/2 inch it becomes a problem, reducing water movement and encouraging shallow, weak root systems. Thick thatch also can become a home for insects and disease.
How will my lawn benefit from core aeration?
  • Compacted soil will be loosened
  • Decreased thatch level
  • Increased availability of water and nutrients
  • Improved soil oxygen levels
  • Stimulated root growth
  • Room for root expansion
  • Root density
  • Enhanced organic activity
  • Enhanced organic thatch decomposition
  • Increased drought tolerance
When is the best time to core aerate?
We recommend core aeration 1-2 times annually. The best time to aerate your  lawn is in the spring & fall, in conjunction with spring & fall reseeding.

Over-Seeding
What is Overseeding?
Simply, overseeding is the planting of grass seed without tearing up your turf in the process. It is an easy way to improve the color, density and health of your lawn. We highly recommend that you pair Overseeding with Core Aeration. Post aeration is the optimal time to encourage new growth in your lawn.
Why does my lawn need overseeding?
Continual overseeding is a mandatory practice for those looking to enhance their lawns density and fill in gaps that are prone to weed growth. Overseeding allows new improved types of turf grass to be introduced to a lawn to resist drought, diseases and damaging lawn insect attacks. New plant growth and subsequent thickening of the lawn will provide you with an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
How will my lawn benefit from overseeding?
  • Increased density
  • Filling gaps prevents weeds
  • Improve color with new seed variety
  • Improve drought tolerance
  • Improve disease tolerance
  • Improve age of turf with young seed
When is the best time to overseed?
We recommend core aeration 1-2 times annually. The best time to overseed your lawn is in the spring & fall, in conjunction with spring & fall aeration.
